Posted by Dan Putera on

There is no force more powerful than a woman determined to rise. Meet Jessica Sutanto, a very inspirational woman that’s very ambitious and focused. Beside her busy schedule, she loves to spend her leisure time doing sports and one of them is archery. How interesting is that? To know more about her, we did an interview with this lovely boss lady.

 What’s your full name?

My name is Jessica Sutanto. But people usually call me Icha. That’s why my username on Instagram is Ichajessica, it’s a mix of my first name and my nickname (laugh)

What was your first job desk?

I was working with a magazine company but eventually I realized it wasn’t for me so I got out. I also worked with an influencer from singapore as a fashion consultant

What is your current job?

I work for Victoria’s Secret as a marketing manager

What’s is the obstacles in working with Victoria’s Secret?

This is a tough question. The brand sounds very sexy, flexible, fluid but it is actually not. There's a lot of pressure and restrictions from working behind the table, there are a lot restrictions, a lot of do's and dont's. Pressure and stress, these things will always be present while working. It's not easy to work with people but it depends on how you positioned yourself. I have to think about what’s good for both me and the company.

When you grow up do you ever imagine to be in this industry?

Since I was kid, I love fashion. When I was younger I struggle with a lot of options like architecture and law but at the end of the day, why do I have to force myself to work with something I don’t like? I am very ambitious, if I want something, I need to get it. I am very thankful that I get to enjoy my work, not a lot of people get the same chance.

What do you like to do in your leisure time?

I love sports. I do sports 3 times a week. Mostly I go to gym and join classes but recently I discovered archery and love it so much. I also love to travel. I just got back from Vietnam. I love to explore unusual destinations as they usually offer exciting and exotic experiences.

What is your favorite country beside your own?

Hmmm Germany. I really want to go to Turkey and Mexico. It is in my bucket list. Fingers crossed

Would you ever consider living abroad?

I would. As much as I love living in Jakarta, I can portray myself living abroad. But for now, settling in Indonesia is the best option due to parents wanting.

Let’s talk a little bit about your personal life. Are you seeing someone right now?

Yes. I’ve been single for 2 and a half years. I wasn’t actually looking for someone because of my work, but I meet this guy by coincidence. He’s an American but he lives in Jakarta.

Do you read books?

Yes. But I don’t like fictions. I feel like I am a realist. I love self-enrichment books. I love Jordan Peterson and my recent read is Twelve Antidote of Life. I read cartoons sometimes but not a big fan of it. The only fiction author that I read is Dan brown and my favorite is Origin. It has a very interesting fantasy in it.

Any book recommendations for us?

Jordan B. Peterson and Ryan Holiday books. Their writings are very positive and realistic. One thing that I see and learn from their books is how we overcome our failure and make us better as a human beings. I love books that inspire people in a positive way, but are still realistic. They both have the same rhythm that’s why I love them so much.

Do you think young people nowadays read books?

I think most teenagers nowadays doesn’t read books that much since technology has rule us over. Even though there are e-books, but personally, I go with the traditional way, I need to have the hardcopy to really experience it. There’s just a certain feeling about it.

Do you watch TV series?

Not much. I am actually the only one in my office that didn’t watch Game of Thrones series. Everyone in my office are crazy about it, sometimes I just don’t get it (laugh). I watch some crime series like Breaking Bad, Billions, Suits. And some drama series like This is Us. It is actually very good, I love it a lot. It is the only drama series that made me tear up a lot!
